SCHAEFER’S FOOD MART SEES A 19% DROP IN ELECTRICITY COSTS WITH WPS GLOBAL SYSTEM

This recent success story demonstrates an important and growing trend in grocery store management — better managing energy costs. More specifically, reducing electricity waste. IGA Schaefer‘s Food Mart in Crandon Wisconsin implemented an energy management solution that’s reduced their electricity costs by 19 percent over a one year period. That’s significant for this 28,000 square foot operation. Energy costs account for a significant portion of a grocery store’s operating budget — up to 15%. And, in a ~30,000 square foot store, refrigeration and lighting represent about 65% of total electricity use. For an even closer look at how their installed components cut costs by reducing wasteful usage, decreasing CO2 emissions and diverting electrical surges, you’ll want to contact...

PHILCORR REPORTS A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN ELECTRICITY COSTS

PhilCorr, a 120,000 square-foot sheet-feeder based in Vineland, New Jersey, recently reported a $26,000 reduction in electricity costs accrued over a five month period. The substantial savings are a direct result of its custom WPS Global Inc. system installation in March 2015. This reduction in electricity consumption is one of PhilCorr’s energy management goals. The corrugated sheet feeder already generates nearly half of its total power via a 1.2-megawatt rooftop solar system made up of 3,584 fixed panels covering roughly 77,000 square feet. By significantly reducing its reliance on power from the Vineland Electric grid, PhilCorr is using the WPS Global system to further its sustainability initiatives. PhilCorr will consume fewer fossil fuels and reduce its emissions as a result. The reduction in total electricity consumption is making the sheet-feeder’s solar equipment have an even larger impact.  Over the five month period, the percentage of solar generated electricity, versus purchased, jumped to 52%. Without the reduction in electrical usage, PhilCorr’s same solar equipment would have only produced 47 percent of its electrical usage. As an added benefit, the WPS Global install protects PhilCorr’s equipment from electrical spikes and surges.  “Since the install, we’ve had no loss of drives,” says Daniel Santhouse, operations manager, PhilCorr. “And, we had no loss of equipment following a direct lightning strike on a nearby transformer.” The WPS Global system is designed to benefit high consumers of energy (facilities operating large equipment such as corrugators) with greater savings by reducing kilowatt consumption. The custom-designed plan WPS Global prepared for PhilCorr required no equipment or process changes and no investment in...

Bad News for your Corrugated Facility

Dear Corrugated Facility Management, I have good news for you, and some bad. First, the bad news: if you don’t have a WPS Global Inc. energy reduction system running in your plant(s) right now, you’re never going to earn the significant savings that are available to you (and with zero effort or employee resources on your part). Your competitors and peers in the corrugated and sheet plant industry ARE ALREADY reaping the benefits. There are dozens of success stories. Recently PFFC featured one of those success stories. They reported: Corrugated | Converter Forecasts $1 Million Savings with Energy Reduction System You may have to read the whole story to believe it. In short, the system has been in place for two years. And, Freedom Corrugated’s WPS Global energy management system has already earned it a 15.38 percent overall reduction in kWh usage and an energy cost savings of over $177,000. The savings will continue for at least another 13 years, resulting in an anticipated savings of more than $1,300,000 over a total of 15 years. Other than cost savings, there are sustainability benefits as well. The WPS Global solution has lowered Freedom’s CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions an average of 72.85 tons per month over 24 months. By year 15, the company expects to have cut its CO2 emissions by a total of 13,113 tons. Since the installation, Freedom Corrugated has seen savings in maintenance costs as well. Now, the good news. Your operation is a simple WPS Global audit away from reducing its energy consumption by a double digit percentage. This translates to thousands of dollars in savings each month. This is no exaggeration. Can you imagine where you could re-invest that...

How Will YOU Cut Energy Costs in 2013?

There are more than 20 corrugated, paperboard and packaging facilities all over the U.S. that cut their electrical usage by 10 to 20 percent or more in 2012, adding up to millions of dollars in bottom line savings, thanks to a customized solution installed by WPS Global Inc. Let’s take a look at two energy-cutting trends your corrugated/sheet plant should be pursuing in 2013. How Will YOU Cut Energy Costs in 2013? Among Inc. Magazine’s “9 Ways to Cut Energy Costs” is to Take Advantage of Tax Credits. The online publication explains that the federal stimulus package created and extended tax incentives for green initiatives, such as a 30 percent investment tax credit for renewable-energy systems. It suggests you don’t miss out on other reprieves from sources besides the federal government. For a list of state offerings, see the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency,dsireusa.org. The site also features information about rebates for installing renewable-energy and energy-efficient systems. You may recall a recent success story from WPS Global customer Northern Sheets. To help offset the cost of installing the energy reduction system WPS Global had prepared for its facility, Northern Sheets researched the incentives available to it from the State of California. The company learned of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s (SMUD) rebates and incentives to encourage area businesses to invest in energy efficiency. The rebate helped Northern Sheets cover the costs of the installation of a customized energy management solution from WPS Global, which in turn has already cut the facility’s energy costs by 15%.
